In addition to our diversified counselling options, we employ a variety of different therapy approaches in order to create an individualized treatment program as we find that clients often benefit from a multi-dimensional strategy. Listed below are just some of the incredibly effective models of therapy used by our team:

1. EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a form of psychotherapy that has been proven to be effective for the treatment of trauma. It involves making side-to-side eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation while recalling distressing memories. This type of therapy helps the brain to reprocess traumatic memories so that they no longer cause emotional distress.

2. CBT Therapy

CBT Therapy is short for cognitive-behavioural therapy and can help with anxiety, depression and other mental health issues. In this type of therapy, you will be taught skills to address your thoughts and behaviours that may be causing you distress.

3. DBT Therapy

DBT Therapy is another form of cognitive-behavioural therapy that can be especially helpful for people with borderline personality disorder or with anger management concerns. This type of therapy focuses on four main areas: distress tolerance skills; emotion regulation skills; interpersonal effectiveness skills; and mindfulness skills.

4. Mindfulness Therapy

Mindfulness Therapy takes an approach similar to CBT but instead teaches people how to become more aware of their emotions and thoughts without judgement or criticism of themselves or others.

5. Prolonged Exposure Therapy

Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) is an evidence-based treatment for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). It involves gradual exposure to feared situations over time until there is no longer a reaction to them.

This may involve having a flashback during therapy but this is normal and will lessen over time with more sessions. PE has been shown to be effective at reducing symptoms associated with PTSD such as anxiety, depression, insomnia and flashbacks/intrusive thoughts.

We don’t believe that there is a one size fits all approach to good mental health so we make sure that when working with clients we offer a flexible plan tailored to their unique needs. We are not here to judge — instead we are compassionate and here to support you every step of the way as you find a healthier balance in your life.

Counselling FAQ

Counselling offers a space to talk through your challenges and find out what is really happening. It can help you learn more about yourself, discover how you cope in stressful situations, and how your feelings influence how you interact with the world.

Counselling can be an important component of a range of mental health treatments, including medication. After all, medications help most with managing symptoms and behaviours but people who are experiencing symptoms of depression or anxiety may find that their medications alone do not adequately improve their quality of life. In such cases, people can benefit a great deal from counselling. All medications work better in combination with behavioural therapy or talk therapy.

Both psychologists and counsellors facilitate change in the mental health of their clients. A psychologist is a licensed professional that deals specifically with mental health. They are typically trained in psychotherapy, which involves all aspects of the human mind including psychopathology and behavioural trends. Psychologists will look at how a person’s family experiences, genetics, and social issues like prejudice or discrimination have shaped them. Psychologists approach therapy using cognitive behavioural methods, which are typically based on science backed psychology teachings.
