Therapy is covered by Alberta Health Care if it is provided in a medical setting, such as a hospital, primary health care clinic, or if you are referred to a psychiatrist. Outside of AHS you can also pay out of pocket or use your extended health benefits for private counselling. This will give you more flexibility in choosing a therapist of your choice and possibly have shorter wait times.
Finding a good therapist is a tough job, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t find the right therapist on your first try. Try not to settle for someone who seems good enough at first but doesn’t seem to be meeting your needs in the long-term. It’s better to keep looking until you find someone who addresses all of your concerns and makes you feel heard and understood.
Yes you can. Our clinic is actually a self referral private counselling clinic. You do not need to speak with your general practitioner, if you have done some research and have found a therapist you think will be a good fit for you, you can make an appointment directly with us.
We are currently accepting new clients however being a good fit is everything in a therapeutic alliance. When you’re ready, please contact us for a free 30-minute phone consultation to see if we match your needs and goals.
