My professional values include kindness, transparency, humor, confidentiality and authenticity. I am passionate about mental health, improving general wellness as well as building resiliency through life’s challenges all while recognizing that each of our stories and experiences have shaped us in a variety of ways.
I believe it’s important to be compassionate with ourselves as we face challenges and that within each challenge there is an opportunity for growth. Each person comes to counselling with a different background and experience which is why I use a combination of strategies.
I view individuals seeking counselling as a sign of personal strength, not of weakness. It takes awareness in our lives and courage to be able to reach out for help. I partner with clients to access their strengths allowing them to gain insight and find solutions. I employ compassion and humor while helping clients reach their personal goals.
I believe the therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of a successful experience in counselling. I work to build a safe, non-judgmental, and trusting environment for clients to explore their issues.
I am not the type of counsellor who will only ask, “how does that make you feel?” and stare blankly at you waiting for a response. I am not afraid to talk about hard or awkward topics. I am not afraid to challenge you when I believe that you are limiting yourself.
